Go Beyond the Classroom
PSD Students have the opportunity to participate in work-based learning in middle school beginning with career exploration in Xello. High school students gain workforce readiness skills by participating in career tours, internships, apprenticeships, capstone projects, or paid part-time work experiences. Students that take 2 or more courses in a career pathway can earn 1 elective credit for every 15 hours they participate and meet the capstone requirement for graduation.

Apprenticeships & On-the-Job Training
CareerWise Youth Apprenticeship - An apprenticeship applies what students learn at school to meaningful work with modern employers. Students spend part of the week at their high school, and part of the week with their employer. Students receive credit for their apprenticeship, so they graduate on time with their peers. WHAT IS WORK-BASED LEARNING?
Work-based Learning provides a combination of school and workplace learning with local employers. Students either work off-site at an employer's location, or employers come on-site to the classroom.
Students learn first-hand how to succeed in the workforce, learning what it takes to be successful while gaining both an education and valuable technical skills in their chosen pathway.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Students, more than ever need to know how their classroom experience translates to the real world. It is essential to teach the "why" in the classroom and how it transitions to the workplace.
EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
Students learn not only industry-specific technical skills but also professional skills valued by employers like communication, collaboration, teamwork, resilience, and work-ethic.
